California Dreamin'

I'm a lucky girl to be dating my sweet boyfriend... I'm even luckier that his family lives in beautiful northern California! That means vacations for me :) Kev and I recently got back from a great visit to his hometown. I always love visiting his home... the weather, landscape, scenery, and California vibes always make for a great trip!

Monterey Bay Aquarium- rated best in America! We agreed!

If you are planning on a northern California trip soon, the 17 mile drive is a must! We had the best time driving slowly and taking in the beautiful views!

Pebble Beach, CA

What's a vacation without a little indulging?

Friendly Reminder

My friends and I recently made a trip down to Gruene, Texas to float the Guadalupe River. On our way down from Ft. Worth, we made a lunch stop in Austin. We ate at the local fave, Magnolia Cafe. As soon as we walked in, I could tell we were in for a good time! The atmosphere was very cool and "Austin-like" and the food was great.

What I loved the most, however, was our waitress. She was such a free spirit and kept repeating the phrase, "it's your world"..... what a concept! Such a simple idea that is so easily forgotten sometimes. Even though she was just our waitress, I felt like I got to know who she was as a person, and I could definitely tell that she lives in her own world without trying to please anyone else. It was so refreshing to be reminded that it really is your own world, and you can be whoever you want in it.

Green Smoothies

Green smoothies... Sound scary? Well, let me be the first to assure you that they have become a highlight of my day (my days are obviously very exciting)! Whenever I visit my home in San Antonio, I always make it a goal to get my favorite GS from the gym I work out at, but now I have created created a better version of my beloved smoothie!

Here's what I use for a basic GS:
  • handful of ice
  • cup of almond milk
  • 2 handful of spinach
  • handful of kale
  • banana
  • sweetener (Splenda)
Sometimes I will add PB2 (powdered version of peanut butter), different fruit (any kind will work to sweeten), vanilla protein powder, or cocoa powder (adding a bit of cocoa powder makes it taste like a Baskin Robbins chocolate shake..promise!). The options are pretty limitless and it's fun to play around with different ideas!

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Not too scary, right? These smoothies are such a great way to eat raw fruits and veggies. After drinking them for a while, I have felt more energized, hydrated, and I have seen great improvements in my skin. Clearly, I'm a big fan!

Dinner Party

Last night, I decided to have a little dinner party for my boyfriend and two of our friends. I am all about hosting parties and making dinner for people, so this was something I was really looking forward to! I found a great menu on one of my favorite cooking websites/magazines- Eating Well. The menu I liked had roasted chicken... I was so intimidated to roast a whole chicken, but it turned out to be so easy! No thing but a chicken wing ;)

Roasted chicken, sherried mushrooms, parmesan spinach cakes, and asiago polenta.... under 500 calories! So tasty and perfect for a calorie counter! My boyfriend nicknamed me, "Calorie Counter Case", which i suppose is fitting.... http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes_menus

The Big Guys

I can't go on and on about my life without showing pieces of my life...

My family that means more to me than anything

Literally the most amazing woman I know.. my mom

Best guy around.

My boy and s'mores. Happiest girl ever.
The best friends I could ask for.
My bestie and roomie through all of college
My best friend since 5th grade.. Wouldn't be who I am without her

My first post... Now what?

When I first decided to start blogging, obviously the first question that popped in my head was, "What do I even have to say??" But really, what do I have to say that is important and worth reading? What makes the most sense is for me to write about what I love the most; fashion, food, friends, and family (in no particular order.. don't worry, mom). Fashion has always been my life, food and cooking has become my therapy, and living away from home, my friends have become my second family.

I feel like I am learning something new about myself every day.I am learning to take every day one step at a time, and if you know me, then you know this is a challenge for a self- diagnosed planning perfectionist. Follow my blog as I try to figure out what exactly my "case" is as I journey through this wonderful life.
